The Acer is ~$360, and is a decent machine, which is easily upgradable.

I mention easily upgradable, because the machine when you get it, is "ok" right out of the box, but it does suffer from being slow.  The slowness comes from only one point.  The 1TB hard drive.  When you can afford to do it, upgrade the hard drive to a solid state (SSD) drive.  There are many options in the $100 range which will boost performance 10 fold or better.  I know that is hard to imagine on a sub $400 notebook, but believe me, it makes a night and day difference.

Then, to top it off, you just need an Office Suite for word processing, spreadsheets and presentations.
You can get the Microsoft Office Suite for  free  if you are a student.

Or, You can use an open source office suite, LibreOffice is an excellent choice.  https://www.libreoffice.org

If you are a Google Gmail user, you can use the built in Google Apps suite of tools.  Just download Chrome.
